As a Polish-American growing up in metro Detroit, Ryan was exposed to a huge variety of music -- listening to classical music during the day on the CBC radio, jazz in the evenings, and the then emerging techno and electronic music scene late at night. As a older teen he regularly attended the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with student tickets. Combining his interests in music and technology, Ryan studied music composition at Berklee and also holds a masters degree in software engineering from the University of Michigan. His passion for music organically grew from playing video games, watching films, and listening to music. Those influences can be heard in his orchestral scores.

 

His first introduction to music in games was in the Sierra On-Line video game series King's Quest. Similarly in films with Vangelis's score to Blade Runner (1982). A few other's who have written pieces Ryan personally enjoys include Michael Kamen, James Horner, John Williams, and Jasper Kyd.
